My friend Fusie invited me to the Toronto listening party for Ruger’s new album “BlownBoyRU”.
We took the time to actually listen — song by song. When guests couldn’t guess the next track, Fusi would ask the DJ to play it again. That’s how you know we were serious about the music.
Later that night, the room turned into a dance party. A few of us — dancers, movers, lovers of sound — started freestyling.
When “Dudu” came on, something hit different. I found myself in the circle, solo freestyling hard while people hyped me up and filmed. That song stuck with me.
Ruger x Kranium? That mix of afrobeats and dancehall? It lit something in me.

I can’t stop listening to “Dudu.” My roommates can confirm – it became my house soundtrack too.
So my decision is to create a full dance to it.
I shared the idea with my friend Jojo and even checked online: no one else had done a proper choreo to it yet.
It became my birthday wish – To not only share this dance, but maybe one day perform it on stage with Ruger and Kranium when they come to Toronto.

I am building the choreo in my room — drawing from afro and dancehall vocab, my own movement instincts, and memories of performances I’d seen in Italy, Spain, and beyond.
The dance feels so good. I don’t focus on moving it forward – I want each transition to feel good, create a sense of magic and joyous vibe. It feels like I can make other people want to join to this dance.
Jojo and I practiced twice to really sync.
We filmed it with the CN Tower in the background, near Union Station — right in the middle of a road where cars moved around us, but didn’t interrupt.
The energy was magic. At one point, a guy even leaned out of his car and shouted, “You should dance to my music too!”https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Uya5riJUjx5zt3hBaMTbOQi9sV_0Ku1O/view?usp=drive_link

I posted the video on Monday, April 14 – the start of my birthday week – with this caption:
This one is for “Dudu” – my favourite track off @rugerofficial ‘s new album with @kranium. I first freestyled to it at the listening party in Toronto, thanks to my friend @fusihype. And the feeling stayed.
This is my birthday week, and I’m putting my wild wish into the world: to share this dance with Ruger on stage when he comes to Toronto. Not just for the thrill. But because when I move, I invite people in.
I love to see everyone in the community feel uniquely free, connected and happy. Because dance is never just about dancing. It’s about reminding people they’re not alone.
If dreams move, I move with them. And I believe in putting them out there.

Since then — @jojonyan and @fusihype helped make it shine, and Ruger’s own fan page, his news page, and Ruger himself liked the video.
So I’m beyond grateful.
And if anyone who feels the love in this dance wants to help send my wish a little closer to the stage — please do. Let’s see what we can move together.
